The Valley

Sitting by the waterfall I take in my incredible surroundings. Dissecting this forested valley is a series of gushing waterfalls that teem down the mountain into the stillness of the lakes below. Lakes that are encircled by the majestic tree lined mountains, their colours vast and varied. Silent sentries protecting the peace of the valley.

My mind wanders back in time to the creation of this breathtaking valley. This oasis of perfect creation, where stillness and peace are as natural as the trees and the birdsong. I imagine how this valley was formed. A monumental glacier cutting its path effortless through this mountain terrain.

I picture the catastrophic destruction wrought by this tower of moving ice. How the beautiful mountain was mercilessly cut in two, its centre torn from the earth and swept away. It’s hard to picture such a destructive force, the likes of which most of us have never seen in this lifetime.

And how the scene must have looked in the aftermath of the glacier. How devastated and destroyed must the earth have been in the wake of the silent ice giant. But this is the past and now much has changed.

Back to the present I see the divinity of the valley once more, and I sit peacefully in its tranquil embrace. In what once was destruction and torment.

The glacier and the valley hold meaning for all of us in our own lives. You see, just like the glacier, suffering comes to us all, sometimes mercilessly so. However, just like the valley, once we move beyond our suffering we come through more beautiful than ever before. Stronger, wiser, and with a deeper appreciation of life, love, and laughter.

They say problems are opportunities in disguise, and this is true. I say that with the right perspective, suffering can sometimes be a blessing in disguise.

When the suffering seems too much to bear.
When the pain and torment seem so unfair.
Remember the valley.

However hard the path.
Know that this too shall pass.
Remember the valley
