About David
Working with people is my passion. I love helping my clients to make their way through and beyond their suffering, which is often accompanied by a new perspective on their life. I feel privileged to be in a position where I can help others move towards understanding, and living a life that is rich with meaning.
The approach that I adopt to counselling and psychotherapy is eclectic, incorporating Person Centred, Humanistic, and Existential therapies with cognitive behavioural therapies such as Reality Therapy and more. Just as no two individuals are the same, no two clients' needs will be the same; and so I will tailor the counselling to meet the needs of the individual client.
I work with couples, individuals, families and teens. My qualifications include a BA in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, a Professional Certificate in Family Therapy, and a certificate in ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training). I have also trained in Mindfulness, Shamanic Psychotherapy, Choice Theory, and Family Constellations. I love learning and continue to resource myself through personal and professional development.

About Counselling
Counselling provides you with the opportunity to talk about issues or problems in your life in a safe, supportive and confidential environment. A counsellor can support you in making changes in your life, to grow and to develop yourself as a person. This can be accomplished by helping you learn new skills and new ways of looking at your life.
The duration of counselling will vary depending on the needs and wants of the client. Some clients find they benefit most from short-term, solution focused counselling. Other clients may prefer longer term therapy, utilising the therapeutic alliance between counsellor and client to glean a deeper understanding of themselves.
Counselling sessions are usually once per week and last for 50 minutes. The duration of counselling remains the clients choice at all times, but generally a minimum commitment of six sessions over six weeks is recommended.

Counselling/Psychotherapy is for anybody. It can be of great support in times of crisis or change. Both counselling and psychotherapy involve the provision of professional assistance to people who are experiencing personal issues, in order to help alleviate those difficulties. Counselling tends to deal more with immediate issues that may have arisen more recently e.g. bereavement or relationship breakdown. Psychotherapy tends to deal with deeper, more long-term issues that may be rooted in the past e.g. a trauma, or, serious mistreatment, where the affects of such are ongoing.
Counselling and psychotherapy are terms that overlap heavily and are often used interchangeably. They incorporate the giving of attention and respect in a confidential relationship. It provides an opportunity to explore, discover and clarify ways of living more resourcefully towards greater well being. Stress, Anxiety, Bereavement, Addiction and Relationship issues are some of the reasons why people engage the services of a counsellor/psychotherapist.
